I can tell you what your recordings will consist of.
for team communication:
- alot of 'gay' and 'faggot'
- alot of 'fucking'
- the occasional 'brb' or 'afk for 5 mins'
- if there are danes in the raid they will whine about sweeds
- if there are sweeds in the raid they will whine about danes
- if there are sweeds and danes in the raid they will whine about the rest

shared mental models:
- germany is evil
- everyone can and will be converted to gaynism
- gnomes are only in the raid because we need to blame someone (oke oke this is more my own model but im working hard to impose it on everyone)

Peronally I'm dubious about letting someone record what I say.

I'm not acusing you, but the cynical side within me always does this.
Recording of individuals and such, this type of media is incredibly powerful and can be edited very easily. I personally for someone to come in externally who I don't have a repour with to come and record potentially my thoughts etc which are vocalised on ventrilo would need some form of signed document.
This would have to have relevant information regarding data protection laws, human rights from your country/EU constitution, also appropriate computer misuse laws from your country.

From me this request is a resounding no. But I do not make decisions alone, it will be discussed and an answer will be posted here.

Hello,

Thank you for the interest in our guild with regards to monitoring some of our communications by way of our Ventrilo server and in-game chat.

I am afraid to inform you that this request is denied. I am myself studying for a postgraduate degree and so I have some understanding of your reasoning’s for this request, however as a fellow officer has pointed out privacy and the recording of what our members say is an issue we have to consider. I would not want to have the views of our players misrepresented in your research an example of this could be profanity, derogatory phrases or even what an outsider may consider racist comments. Now of course we do not condone racial slurs in the guild but a joke can be interpreted very differently from someone in Balance and someone outside of it.

As the owner of the Ventrilo server I also have concerns about whether it would make people say different things or not act as they normally do.

Again thanks for the interest and we wish you luck with the rest of your research.

/Balance.
