uTorrent, ISP and slow browsing experience
Hey I got a problem ever since I changed my ISP to Bredbandsbolaged 100mbit. The connection works fine and is very powerful. However if I start uTorrent and some traffic goes on in there my browsing experience becomes horrid. It can take MINUTES to load a webpage when it usually takes a second.
It doesnt quite matter how much bandwidth I'm using for uTorrent, as soon as the software is running my browsing just gets plugged. I have no problems with online gaming experience nor does my download speed suffer if I simply DL something from an ftp or whatnot.
Even if I'm only using like 1/10 of my bandwidth in uTorrent it gets like this.
Dunno why, havnt changed anything since my last ISP and that one worked without this problem.
Any ideas?

got every major version of ie for webdesign compability purposes, but ie7 is the default I use if I ever use it for some reason.
Scanned the pc with malewarebytes anti-maleware and I also have a legit copy of nod32 reporting no problems ^_~
Can try to reinstall utorrent I guess.. I just know I updated it to its latest version some time ago.

this has to do with the new service; it eats up ur connections
if u set ure torrentprog to a certain amount of conns used you will be able to browse more freely
you could try to dig up some information on opening ports on ur router or get a static ip adress from ur provider

I'm not a expert but, but some days ago i was talking about Utorrent with a m8 and he explained me if u have ur upload maxed out u wont be able to surf on the web freely.
He told me to "cap" the upload limit, and connections.
So i went home and tryed it, atm my ISP allows me a connection of 8mb download and 1mb upload. With this my normal download speed is a steady 800 kb/s and a upload of 100 kb/s.
If i dont limit the upload i cant surf on websites, but when i limit the uploads and connections it can surf normaly.
Maybe u have tryed this, if not its worth the try. Bombi sugestion also can work, public ip.
On Utorrent, check the icon on middle bottom of screen.. is it green? Or as a atention mark?
Anyway just want to help, nvm if i messed up a bit, speaking from what i was told and it seem to work to me.
And the connections on Sweden(?) are better then here, optical fiber, simetrical ?..etc.

Windows XP?
try http://www.lvllord.de/?lang=en&url=downloads to change the limit of half-open connections allowed (10 is low).
probably not it, but it's worth a try.
also, update the drivers for your network card (I assume you connect via a network card) and also try some other bitorrent client (any will do) to try and see if it is your problem or the program's.
ohh, and if you connect through a router, don't forget to set up your port forwarding

Tellez: I did say in my opening post that even if im only using like 1/10 of my bandwidth for uTorrent traffic the problem persists. (am I misunderstanding the term bandwidth and using it wrong? I know it can refer to some different things but isnt it the capacity of my system to transfer data over a network? Can be expressed as kB/s, MB/s etcetera.)
Anyway it doesnt matter if I cap my UL limit.
Oh and the icon is green, network OK.
Hic: Yes win xp. I did read elsewhere when googling the problem that reducing half-open connections (net.max_halfopen) to 4 is good.
I do not connect via any routers or modems, I got fibre running to my wall so I only connect my network cable from my computer to the wall directly.
I did find a direct solution though, not totally sure how it affects my DL/UL performance yet. In uTorrent I went Settings -> Bandwidth -> [Global Maximum Number of Connections: 600] changed to 30.
[Maximum Number of Connected Peers per Torrent: 100] unchanged.
The direct consequence was less connections running small data transfers and instead few connections running greater data transfers. Didnt seem to make a big impact on general torrent speeds though. Just tried downloading Farcry 2 and it ran at 5 MB/s DL and 1MB/s UL so thats alright. Browsing the web is muuuuuuuuuuch faster with only 30 global connections.
thx for the replies

Limiting the number of half open connections is good in the way that if you get infected with a virus like blaster that spread itself without you knowing, it helps containing it. Old XP had a virtually ilimited capability to do them, leading to a huge spread in a short amount of time.
To you, personally, there is only upsides to changing this value. Especially if you're using P2P programs
but it's your call, obviously

I am not even close to you guys computer knowledge wise
However, there is this option in uTorrent that lets you choose your connection speed maybe you did not change that ? i know it is a silly suggestion but hey even the best forget small things sometimes ^^
